So Fresh, So Clean: Alaskan Brewing Celebrates International Coastal Cleanup Day by Giving Back

JUNEAU, AK (September 16th, 2022) – With over 6500 miles of coastline in Alaska, protecting its shores from the glaring effects of marine pollution is critical to the people and businesses of the Last Frontier. This inspired Alaskan Brewing to create the Coastal CODE initiative (meaning Clean Oceans Depend on Everyone) which provides grants to organizations and activities that promote the health of the ocean and the waterways that lead to it.

The Coastal CODE Fund grants money to projects that promote: beach, lake or waterway cleanup activities or water habitat restoration. Since 2007, Alaskan Brewing has donated a portion of the proceeds from the sale of its Icy Bay IPA to organizations responsible for keeping the waterways clean within the communities the brewery serves.

Alaskan Brewing’s Coastal CODE has awarded $350,000+ to over 40 organizations in various states nationwide including, but not limited to Alaska, Washington, California and Michigan since its inception. This year seven recipients haves been awarded grants from the Coastal CODE:

-Suki Patterson
-Sitka Sound Science Center
-Copper River Watershed Project
-Kenai Watershed Forum
-Northcoast Environmental Center
-Puget Soundkeeper Alliance
-Where the Water Meets the Road

Since its inception over 1 million pounds of trash have been removed from cleanup efforts made possible by the CODE and thousands of volunteers. Beaches and waterways from Alaska to California and now the Gulf to the Midwest can all benefit from this beer with a cause.

New grant applications for the 2023 grant application period will open in October and run through December 15th. Interested? Applications can be submitted by email to [email protected] using the application available here Coastal Code Application 2022

For those looking to volunteer locally, the brewery is supporting a cleanup at Switzer Creek in its hometown of Juneau, Alaska from 9am – noon on Saturday the 17th in support of International Coastal Cleanup Day. For more information, see us on Facebook.
